Garage Doors
A garage door is a large door used for garage egress that can be opened manually or electrically (garage door opener). Garage doors are often large enough to accommodate cars and other vehicles. The operating mechanism is usually spring-loaded or counterbalanced to offset the weight of the door and reduce the amount of human or motor effort required to operate the door. Less commonly, some garage doors slide or swing horizontally. Doors are made of wood, metal, or fiberglass and may be insulated to prevent heat loss. The typical overhead garage door used in the past was a one-piece panel. An unequal parallelogram hinged lifting mechanism was mounted on each side of the panel. Now, newer versions of overhead garage doors often consist of several panels hinged together that roll along a track system guided by rollers. A garage door opener is a controlled electric mechanism used to open the garage door, adding convenience, safety, and security, and is often used with a remote control or a button on the wall.

Single Panel Garage Doors
Single panel doors are constructed from a single, solid panel. Single panel doors swing upward from a closed position to a fully open position via hinges (jamb hardware) on both sides. The disadvantage of a solid panel door is that part of the door's upward swing arc occurs outside the garage. This means that vehicles must be parked several feet in front of the door to avoid being struck when the garage door opens. Single panel doors can also be installed (single piece track hardware) so that the door folds back with a horizontal track on each side (installed on top of the wood frame) and a roller mounted on the top of each door. Each side has a hinge that connects to the bottom of each side of the garage door. With track hardware, cars can be parked closer to the door because the door sits completely within the garage door transom when in the open position. Track hardware creates a smaller arc when raising and lowering the garage door than jamb hardware.

Sectional Garage Doors
Sectional doors usually have three to eight panels that slide up and over. Sectional doors take up the same amount of space inside the garage as a solid door. Sectional doors have two advantages over single-panel solid doors:
Sectional doors do not require any space outside the garage to open. Vehicles can be parked very close to the garage before opening the door. Each door panel is connected to a door track. This improves reliability and sturdiness compared to solid doors where the entire door panel is connected by only a few tracks.
2) Side sliding doors; there is a lot of space under the garage ceiling, and the entire ceiling of the garage can be used for quick access to the garage.

Roll up doors
Roll up doors (sometimes called "panel doors") are usually made of corrugated steel. They evolved from coverings used to cover windows and doors. Other materials (such as clear corrugated fiberglass) may be used where strong impact resistance is not required. The corrugation gives the door its impact strength. A typical single-car garage roll-up door has a preloaded spring within the rolling mechanism. The spring reduces the force required to open the door. Oversized roll-up doors in commercial locations have no springs (except in the United States) and use a manual pulley and chain system or a gear motor to raise and lower (roll up and down) the door. Roll-up doors do not insulate effectively.
